Antarctica

Remote, icy, pristine, vast, wildlife-rich, serene, extreme, untouched, surreal, breathtaking.

About Antarctica

  • Location: Earth’s southernmost continent, surrounded by the Southern Ocean, known for its extreme cold, dryness, and windiness.

International Airports:

  • Punta Arenas International Airport (PUQ), Chile: For fly-cruise expeditions to King George Island and embark on shorter cruises.
  • Ushuaia International Airport (USH), Argentina: The primary departure point for most Antarctic cruises. The gateway for cruises through the Drake Passage.

Temperature in Antarctica Throughout the Year:

  • Summer (November–March): -2°C to 8°C (28°F to 46°F).
  • Winter (April–October): -20°C to -60°C (-4°F to -76°F).

Best Time to Travel to Antarctica:

  • November to March (Summer): Milder temperatures, 20+ hours of daylight, active wildlife, and better exploration opportunities.
  • April to October (Winter): Inaccessible due to extreme temperatures (-60°C) and complete darkness.

Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens:

  • Argentina: Indian citizens require a tourist visa for entry into Argentina for cruise departures from Ushuaia.
  • Chile: Indian citizens need a tourist visa for entry into Chile for fly-cruise options from Punta Arenas. Indian passport holders with a valid multiple-entry USA visa (B1/B2, H1B, etc.) or a Green Card can enter Chile visa-free for up to 90 days. The USA visa or Green Card must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Chile.
  • Antarctica: No specific visa required for Antarctica itself as it is governed by the Antarctic Treaty; access is via authorized operators.
